Our Music Teacher Jean’s Profile and Cebuano Songs

2013/04/22/

I came across to a realization of how life would be more than a million of happiness. I can choose go to a party with friends, swim to the finest beaches here in the Philippines and shop around the biggest malls here in Cebu. And I suddenly turn back the question, how should I receive a million of happiness to those who seem to be very difficult in life.

Oh! Kids, yes they are- the street kids who don’t even feel how difficult life is. They consider every moment so happy together with their street friends. Not minding the risks of being raped, drug addiction, caught by the police, to smoking and all the violence in the globe. They walk along the street begging from someone to hand them a piece of bread or coins. Some of them snatch into the thousands of people walking through the busy streets. Oh my!

But what keeps me more alive is when I know that these kids have potentials. Meeting a lot of people in the street could build their confidence without being shy towards a big crowd. Amidst their fast moving body and agility, they may be good in basketball, volleyball, table tennis but I dunno if swimming is. Trained by the various music they hear along the street could make them good music player. They are kids and thus must be trained in order for them to see how valuable they are towards their family, friends and to the community.

And this is what makes me happy with which my happiness is reflected to them as I see them so happy too. Going through the studio near the street where they roam wearing their dusty clothes of sweaty bodies and some of the dirt in their faces makes one so “eewww” yet they wore something which no one can ever copy- their own smiles with excitement of learning a new song and meeting new friends makes one “welcome” with a big hug. They showcase such genuine smile where one understands how happy life is. Thus, I call it child magic and this magic relieves my stress from work, family and peers.

Children bring themselves the way they are- fighting and bullying each other and yet when it comes to teaching them music everybody came to be at peace- laggardly at peace. Well, kids are and slowly we come across to enjoy the learning of how wonderful life could be when there is music. Slowly with the good mood of playing as children loves to play we both dream together of a talented and skilled child of which from scratch emerges to be a successful musician, player, engineer, business man and all of their dreams. Gradually
we value the essence of discipline which is one of the core foundations of a child to be successful. And we all know especially the kids that it is in their step that lies their future. And at the end of our weekend music education, everyone goes home with a big smile not only in the faces but in the heart which makes us more excited to see each other on the next weekend.

Every weekend is special as every smile is and it boils down to the happiness that no one can ever measure its depths.
